A Family That Acts Together…

December 10, 2014 / aviva / Uncategorized / No Comments

Laughs together.

You are part of our special community at LCA and we would like you to meet The Mondoil Family.

Hi, I’m Maddie and I started with LCA when I was only 5 years old as the Little Blue Crayon in their Color Adventure show. I’ve spent many years acting there and LCA is so much fun! We get to put on really cool shows for family and friends. Now, I’m 10 years old and performing and learning at LCA gave me the confidence to audition for TV and film projects.

I’m Maddie’s mom, Debra. My husband, Harry, and I are members of the Unusual Suspects Improv Troupe, or U.S.I.T., at LCA. The Adult Improv Workshop is great because we get to spend time as a couple and enjoy a lot of laughs with a fantastic group of people.

We are so thankful that people like the Mondoils are a part of our LCA family!

Gratitude and The Holidays

December 1, 2014 / aviva / Uncategorized / No Comments

Happy December LCA friends! We hope you had a delightful Thanksgiving holiday and weekend. Can you believe that we’ve reached the last month of 2014? We’re looking forward to decorating, wonderful food, family togetherness, giving to one another and the possibility of SNOW!

That being said, at LCA we value manners and being appreciative of what we have. Below you’ll find ways to ensure that your children are grateful during these happy times!

A PREVIEW:

1. Hand-write thank-you’s. One sentence per grade is a good rule of thumb, and be sure to send them out promptly.

2. Make a gratitude jar. Fill it with short handwritten notes of gratitude (“I’m thankful we won the big game!” or, “I’m grateful Grandma came to visit.”). Pick a special time to pull out notes at random and read them aloud.

3. Say thank-you with cookies. Prepare and deliver a homemade “thank you” to your local fire or police department, or your pediatrician’s or dentist’s office.

More tips and cute ideas can be found below!

May you all get into the holiday spirit, have a lovely December!

How Do We Measure Success?

November 19, 2014 / aviva / Uncategorized / No Comments

SUCCESS

How do we measure success at LCA? How large a student’s role is? How perfectly they recited their lines at a performance? How thunderous their applause was at curtain call?

Not at LCA. Although these are praiseworthy victories, success is so much more than that. This past weekend at LCA, we had our Fall 2014: “Storybooks Come Alive!” performances. Our eight week session had students attending class once a week. Each group covered a famous children’s book.

Our classroom has evolved into a place where students let worries go, celebrate who they really are and channel pent up energy (after being at school all day) into something positive. We’ve exercised our minds while memorizing scripts, thought about our characters and played games that inspired new, imaginative ways of thinking.

Standing up in front of parents and friends is no easy task, but we’ve turned this petrifying hurtle into something fun. We’ve seen initially introverted children with cases of intense stage fright come out of their shell. We’ve seen regular long-time students make specific and smart choices as they hone their acting style, but most importantly, we’ve seen students feel comfortable enough to step up to those microphones and enjoy what they’re doing.

That is a victory that should make every teacher smile…and it has.

That’s why we choose theater. That’s why we choose Lights, Camera, Acting!

That’s what success means at LCA.
